Equity funds add close to 2.50 lakh folios in November

Investors continued to pour money in equity funds in November, as is evident from the growth in folios.

The latest SEBI data shows that equity funds added close to 2.50 lakh folios in November. However, the pace of addition has decreased compared to the past few months.

The total folio count of equity funds went up to 3.43 crore in November from 3.41 crore in October even though the BSE Sensex fell 2% during the same period.

The addition in folios in November was due to healthy inflows in equity funds. The industry received net inflows of over Rs. 6,500 crore in equity funds (including ELSS) in November. More significantly, majority of the inflows came in existing funds. Existing funds received gross inflows of Rs. 11,754 crore while NFOs collected Rs. 180 crore. As a result, the equity AUM of the industry reached Rs. 4.03 lakh crore in November.

Balanced Funds

Balanced funds added close to 32,000 folios. AMFI data shows that the industry has collected close to Rs.1,000 crore from 27 schemes in November. Balanced fund folios increased from 22.52 lakh in October to 22.84 lakh in November.

Debt

Debt funds have also seen good traction as the total folio count in this category increased by 99,580 in November, largely due to addition in income fund folios.

Barring gold ETFs and fund of funds investing overseas, all other categories recorded a growth in folios. Overseas fund of funds lost 1,350 folios in November. This category is continuously losing folios over the last few months.

Overall, reflecting the positive sentiment among investors, the industry has added over 3.84 lakh folios in November. The total folio count across all categories increased from 4.49 crore in October from 4.52 crore in November.
