Equity funds continued to attract investors in December. The latest AMFI data shows that equity funds (including ELSS) received net inflows of Rs. 3,644 crore. As a result, the equity AUM of the industry reached Rs. 4.05 lakh crore in December. A majority of these inflows came in existing equity funds which received gross inflows of Rs. 12,266 crore.
Balanced funds too received healthy inflows. The category saw net inflows of Rs. 4,511 crore in December.
There were a number of new fund launches across different categories in December. The industry launched 25 FMPs which collected Rs. 4,007 crore. With the tax season around the corner, three ELSS NFOs hit the market, which mopped up Rs. 72 crore. In the ETF category, Edelweiss Exchange Traded Scheme – Banking, HDFC Nifty ETF, HDFC Sensex ETF and Kotak NV 20 ETF collectively mopped up Rs. 486 crore. Axis Children's Gift Fund collected Rs. 158 crore. All in all, the industry received Rs. 5,032 crore from new fund launches in December.
Barring ELSS, ETFs, equity funds and balanced funds, all other categories saw net outflows in December. The industry’s AUM slipped by 2% to Rs. 12.74 lakh crore in December from Rs. 12.95 lakh crore in November due to outflows from income (Rs. 25,875 crore) and liquid funds (Rs. 5,260 crore).
