    Despite volatile markets, equity fund net inflows cross Rs. 72,000 crore YTD

    Continuing the trend of positive inflows, equity funds, including ELSS, received net inflows of Rs. 2,914 crore in January.

    Thanks to sustained inflows through SIPs, equity fund net inflows including ELSS, have reached Rs. 72,872 crore YTD, shows the latest AMFI data. Continuing the trend of positive inflows, equity funds, including ELSS, received net inflows of Rs. 2,914 crore in January. The trend was similar in ETFs too. ETFs, which track the equity indices, saw net inflows of Rs. 1,385 crore in January.

     

    Due to mark to market losses, the AUM of equity funds fell from Rs. 4.05 lakh crore in December 2015 to Rs. 3.84 lakh crore in January 2016.

     

    Income & liquid

     

    Income funds received net inflows of Rs. 15,014 crore in January. As a result, the AUM in this category increased by 3% from Rs. 5.55 lakh crore in December to Rs. 5.71 lakh crore in January. Thus, income funds now constitute 45% of the total Rs. 12.73 lakh crore industry AUM as on January 2016.

     

    Liquid funds received net inflows of Rs. 2,455 crore in January.

     

    Balanced

     

    Balanced funds are the flavor of the season. The AUM in this category has jumped by 52% from Rs. 27,015 crore in April 2015 to Rs. 41,121 crore in January 2016. In January too, balanced funds received net inflows of Rs. 880 crore.

     

    ELSS

     

    With the tax season around the corner, ELSS inflows saw a moderate growth. The category saw net inflows of Rs. 786 crore in January as compared to inflows of Rs. 536 crore in December 2015. ELSS funds manage Rs. 39,169 crore AUM as on January 2016, which is 3% of the total industry AUM.

    Barring gold ETFs and overseas fund of funds, all other categories saw positive net inflows.

     

    All in all, the industry’s AUM dipped marginally by 0.1% from Rs. 12.74 lakh crore in December 2015 to Rs. 12.73 lakh crore in January 2016 due to mark to market losses in equity funds.
