The mutual fund industry continues to receive an encouraging response as more investors prefer to invest in mutual funds. The Rs.37.70 crore mutual fund industry has recorded an increase in investor count, folio numbers and ARN registrations.
Here are the key trends that defined the mutual fund industry in Mar 2022.
Number of folios and investors
- 33.75 lakh folios were registered in Mar 22. This takes the folio count to 12.95 crore as against 12.61 crore in the previous month
- Over the last one year, the folio count has increased by 32%
- In March, the unique investor count has risen by around 3% to 3.37 crore. This includes 3.32 unique PANs and close to 5 lakh unique PEKRNs (PAN-exempt KYC reference numbers)
- Unique investor count has increased by 48% in one year
T30 vs B30
- As against Feb 22, T-30 AUM has dipped slightly to Rs. 30.85 lakh crore and B-30 AUM marginally increased to Rs. 6.72 lakh crore
- T-30 and B-30 cities contribute 82% and 18% respectively to the overall industry AUM
- In terms of folio count, 7.29 crore and 5.66 crore folios have been registered in T-30 and B-30 cities, respectively
Retail investors’ average ticket size
- As compared to Feb 22, the average ticket size has remained more or less constant in Mar 22
- While T-30 cities have reported an average ticket size of Rs. 2.22 lakh, the average ticket size in B-30 cities is Rs. 0.97 lakh
- The combined average ticket size for T-30 and B-30 cities is Rs. 1.67 lakh and the average ticket size for the industry (retail and corporate) is Rs. 2.90 lakh
SIPs
- The total live SIP accounts as on Mar 22 is 5.28 crore
- 20.92 lakh SIPs have been registered and 10.48 lakh SIP accounts have matured/have been paused or discounted
- Of the total SIP count, equity schemes contribute 85%, debt schemes form 3% and hybrid schemes form 6%
Redemptions and funds mobilised
- Rs. 10.54 lakh crore have been redeemed in Mar 22 which is 44% higher than Feb 22
- Gross funds mobilised amount to Rs. 9.84 lakh crore, 28% more than Feb 22
ARNs
- 4,453 new ARNs were registered in Mar 22. They include 2,518 individuals, 150 corporates, 1,784 corporate employees and 1 IFA employee
- Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have reported the maximum ARN/EUIN registration in percentage terms. The top three states respectively contribute 25%, 12% and 8% to the overall registrations
- 2,607 individuals, 223 corporates and 2,058 corporate employees have renewed their ARNs in Mar 22. Total ARN renewal stands at 4,888 which is slightly higher than Feb 22
