AMFI has started a campaign to attract more individuals to the mutual fund distribution business. Called 'Mutual Fund Distributor Karein Shuru?', the initiative aims to enhance the status of MF distribution and establish it as a lucrative business opportunity.
As part of the initiative, AMFI has released four TV commercials depicting how individuals from different walks of life - fresh college graduates, individuals in rural India, mid-career professionals or small business owners and entrepreneurs - have become MF distributors and are doing well in the profession.
AMFI will also run ads on newspapers and websites. Through this website, AMFI will generate leads and train them to become mutual fund distributors.
AMFI will use its own budget to fund the TV commercial campaign for three months and print and digital campaign for five months.
Speaking on the occasion, AMFI Chairman A Balasubramanian said that expansion of MFD network is crucial for the industry to realise the Rs. 100 lakh crore AUM dream. "With only about 1.25 lakh mutual funds distributors as of now, the reach of intermediaries is limited. Given this under-penetration, we expect and hope that the ‘Karein Shuru?’ campaign would help the industry to on-board more distributors and reach out to a larger investor base across the country," he said.
Vishal Kapoor, Head of AMFI ARN Committee who spearheaded the campaign said the industry needs 4 times more MFDs to realise the Rs. 100 lakh crore dream by 2030 and that this initiative is a move in that direction. "Karein Shuru? is an invitation for action and the campaign aims to inspire individuals from across gender, geography, and age groups to embrace mutual fund distribution as an attractive career option," he said.
