    Fund houses with highest retail assets

    HDFC MF, SBI MF, ICICI Prudential MF and Nippon India MF manage over Rs.1 lakh crore of retail assets each.

    Four mutual fund houses - HDFC MF, SBI MF, ICICI Prudential MF and Nippon India MF have over Rs 1 lakh crore of retail assets as per September 2023 AUM data.

    An analysis of AUM data of the top 30 fund houses (in terms of September 2023 quarterly average AUM) shows that HDFC MF (Rs 1.47 lakh crore) occupies the first spot followed by SBI MF (Rs 1.34 lakh crore), ICICI Prudential MF (Rs 1.19 lakh crore) and Nippon India MF (Rs 1.10 lakh crore)  in terms of retail assets.

    Not far behind is Axis MF (Rs 93,774 crore) which reports the fifth-highest retail assets.

    The data also reveals that UTI MF (Rs 78,917 crore), Aditya Birla Sun Life MF (Rs 77,452 crore), Mirae Asset MF (Rs 64,458 crore), Kotak MF (Rs 58,017 crore) and DSP MF (Rs 48,004 crore) are the next top-five preferences of retail investors.  

    On the other hand, the rankings differ on a pure percentage basis.

    Franklin Templeton MF holds 54% of its AUM in retail assets, the highest among others. Also, it is the only fund house to have over 50% retail share.

    Not far behind is quant MF with 49% followed by PPFAS MF and Canara Robeco MF with respective shares of 48% and 46%. Sundaram MF and Mirae Asset MF have the next-highest share of 45% each.

    Overall, retail AUM forms 26% of the total MF assets of the top 30 fund houses.
