MF industry crossed the Rs.50 lakh crore milestone in December despite net outflows of close to Rs.40,684 crore.
Another good news is that the MF industry added 6.41 lakh new investors taking the total investors count to 4.20 crore in Dec 2023.
Let’s take a look at the key highlights of Dec 2023:
Folio count
- MF industry added close to 31 lakh new folios, raising the total folio count to 16.49 crore
- The industry had 16.18 crore folios in November 2023
T30 and B30 assets
- Of the total AUM of Rs. 51 lakh crore, 82% of the total MF assets or Rs.41 lakh crore came from T-30 cities. The rest, i.e. 18% of the total MF assets was from B30 cities with AUM of Rs.10 lakh crore
Average AUM per folio
- The average AUM per folio of retail investors was Rs.1.91 lakh
- Overall, the MF industry has an average AUM per folio of about Rs.3.08 lakh
- Further, the average AUM per folio of retail investors in B30 was Rs.1.07 lakh and Rs.2.60 lakh in T30 cities
SIP accounts
- The MF industry added close to 40.33 lakh new SIP accounts in Dec 2023 while 20.8 lakh SIP accounts were discontinued.
- Total number of SIP folios stood at 7.64 crore. Of the total SIP accounts, 83% were in equity schemes
ARN/EUIN registration and renewal
- Over 4,500 distributors joined the MF industry of which 2,087 were individual MFDs
- The top contributors for new ARN registration were Maharashtra with 26.03%, Uttar Pradesh 9.91%, Gujarat 9.43% and Tamil Nadu 6.18%
- In terms of ARN renewal, close to 4,400 distributors renewed their ARN. Of this, 1331 were corporate employees and 3,022 were individual MFDs
