In an unprecedented incident, IRDAI has found that a fake company has been running a website with domain name www.irdaionline.org to sell insurance policies, which closely resembles IRDAI’s official portal for agents and brokers called www.irdaonline.org.
In a circular, IRDAI said, “It has been brought to the notice of the IRDAI that a website using domain name www.irdaionline.org is selling insurance to the general public. This domain name is not authorized by the insurance regulator. Please note that IRDAI authorized website is having domain name www.irdaonline.org and this website is hosting Centralized Agency Portal.”
Cafemutual visited this fake website and found that the entity has been using IRDAI official logo and IRDAI’s official address to solicit insurance policies.
IRDAI said that they would take action against such entities selling insurance without proper registration.
Earlier, in November 2016. IRDAI did away with the requirement of putting warning notices on television and cinema hall advertisements informing the public that IRDAI is not involved in the selling and marketing of insurance policies.
