IRDAI finds irregularities in Bajaj Allianz, SBI and Go Digit general insurers

While IRDAI imposed penalties on Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Go Digit General Insurance, it has left off SBI General Insurance with a warning.

IRDAI has found three general insurance companies - Bajaj Allianz, SBI, Go Digit guilty of violating regulatory norms.

While IRDAI imposed penalties on Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Go Digit General Insurance, it has issued warning against SBI General Insurance.

IRDAI has imposed a penalty of Rs.7 lakh on Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company for violating guidelines of Motor Insurance Service Provider (MISP). IRDAI found that the insurer had paid additional payment to its MISP (automobile dealer) which were over and above commission. These payments were made in the form of fees, charges, infrastructure, advertising expenses, documentation charges, legal fees and so on to the directors of the intermediaries.

Similarly, Go Digit was fined Rs.1 lakh for violating file and use guidelines. IRDAI found that the insurer had introduced several add-ons without taking prior permission from the insurance regulator.

On the other hand, IRDAI did not impose penalty on SBI General. The insurance regulator found that the general insurance did not meet its minimum business criteria under motor third party insurance regulations in FY 2016-17. As against the minimum business requirement of Rs. 379 crore under motor third party insurance, the insurer had underwritten premium of Rs.233 crore, a shortfall of Rs.146 crore or 39%.

Always believe in public sector general insurance companies...these companies work for people not for any person...

People can question PSU companies in any forum..as these companies owners are people not an individual..

I disagree.. The entire Insurance industry is working against the interests of the policy holders. Private as well as the PSUs are alike!! IRDAI is no exception. This penalty is an eyewash.. a 7Lacs penalty in of the Lacs of violations is no justification!!

Govt Insurance Companies never cheat the customers and practice ethical business. Don't get blown away with the advertisements and unrealistic promises of the private companies.

Man, Govt companies are not bothered about any action. They openly tell to go to court or irda...it doesn't make a difference to them. Consumer suffers because of forced rejections which they do to keep their branch profitable

Govt insurance company has been found, not meeting their minimum business. People go on their own to govt companies but the private companies come to you. They get good response from Customers and so they prosper and they give extra incentive to the dealers, for which they are fined above.
