Health insurance companies get 200 covid claims a day

Considering that India records over 6000 new coronavirus cases a day, 200 claim requests a day shows that only 3% of the total reported cases make insurance claim request.

Non-life and general insurance companies get at least 200 new claim request a day related to coronavirus pandemic, said a senior official who works for General Insurance Council of India (GIC), an industry trade body for general insurance companies.

So far, insurance companies have received over 5000 claims related to coronavirus with the total sum assured of Rs.73 crore. The claim requests include both cashless and reimbursement settlements of patients undergoing treatments in private hospitals.

Of the total 5000 claim requests, 3000 claim requests have been reported from Maharashtra alone. Further, while 1500 claim requests have come from Mumbai, 700 requests from Pune and NCR each.  Chennai reported 370 claim requests as on March 26, 2020.

Considering that India records over 6000 new coronavirus cases a day, 200 claims requests a day shows that only 3% of the total reported cases make claim request.  This is because many state governments like Kerala and Chhattisgarh are offering Covid-19 treatments only in government hospitals, the source said.

Earlier, IRDAI has asked insurance companies to settle claims related to covid-19 within 2 hours.

Did these insurance companies honour those claims?, is the question.... Pointless article...

These insurance companies avoid normal medical claims, and do you really think they will honour COVID, such a fool’s paradise

In COVID-19 claim, major portion of bills belongs non payable items (PP kit, Mask, Gloves, Sanitizer, etc) with huge amount.
IRDAI will have to clear terms and conditions, Bcoz of COVID-19 treatments become costly.
