Next time, when your clients visit a clinic, they may end up getting a prescription to buy life insurance policies.

Apollo Clinic, a subsidiary of Apollo Hospital has tied up with HDFC Life Insurance to distribute life insurance policies to its patients and customers. Earlier in May, the company tied up with HDFC ERGO to distribute health policies.

The clinic chain has entered the corporate agency business to sell life insurance policies through its network of over 140 clinics. Apollo Clinic runs multispecialty health clinics, labs and pharmacy among other businesses.

This is the first time that IRDAI has given corporate agency license to a company that operates clinics and pharmacies across the country. With this, we may see more clinics, hospitals, pathology labs and pharmacies becoming health insurance distributors to increase their offerings.

patients will be forced to buy policies or coerced to buy policies. or in the extreme they will be billed for the same and a policy may be thrust on them.

i don't think they would do proper risk profiling of the life assured & suggest life insurance accordingly.Pushing of high commission yielding products may be order of the day than actual need of the prospect. It would have been logical if IRDAI had allowed sale (?) of health insurance.
