India Post Payment Bank (IPPB), Department of Posts has tied up with Bajaj Allianz Life insurance to distribute insurance policies.

To start with, IPPB will distribute term cover and annuity products through its network of 650 branches and 1.36 lakh access points.

The tie-up will bring customers particularly from weaker sections and living in unbanked and underserved areas to the insurance fold, believes the company.

In a press release, Vineet Pandey, Secretary, Department of Posts said, “We are committed towards improving the lives of millions of people who do not have easy access to insurance and other financial services. This partnership will enable customers to manage their financial goals in an all-inclusive manner. Customers can continue to avail savings products of Postal Department and simultaneously benefit from these term and annuity insurance products.”

J Venkatramu, MD & CEO, India Post Payments Bank said, “IPPB already offers Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana to its customers. Through our deep and robust network of banking access points, and Gramin Dak Sevaks and Postmen, we are committed to offering comprehensive financial solutions to our customers.”

“Our tech-enabled services and enhancements towards this alliance are designed keeping our customer’s ease of experience and delight in mind.” said Tarun Chugh, MD & CEO, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance.

As per IRDA norms, the person selling the policy should have prescribed minimum educational qualification and should have passed their exam and should have undergone online training. How do they solve this issue?

Institutional broker agent is IPPB, to receive commission. Postman will just delivery the policy and collect premium

It speaks volumes of the attitude of India Post and the Government. Why can't they just change the rules and sell Postal LIfe Insurance products to the public instead of the products of a private insurer ?

As if the banks were not enough to missell insurances. It takes years to understand insurance and product suitability. Which makes banks the biggest missellers. Even web aggregators sell products with highest commission but still government is hell bent on removing the most important link between companies (whose own employees also missell almost every policy) and public who is an agent who genuinely does suitability check and gives client the right solution and serves them throughout the life. But for government agents are middlemen who eat away lots of money and they want to remove agents sobthat companies can maximise their profits. Everyone saw what happened in mutual funds. AMCs never reduced even 1 paisa from their expense and they took away wholeexpense reduction from distrbutors and they only want RIAs so that they don't have to give any money to anyone and keep whole pie to themselves and the government is helping them to do so. Shame on them.

    Is this another Jumla?
What about minimum qualification & IRDA licence
Will they be efficient enough like the agents?
Is this another route adopted to fool people
Does the Government know abot the importance of Term Policy
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yogana - Still people are not aware where to go for their Claim.
This will be a total mess & as usual only collect money from the people & during Claim they will have no idea as to how to go about.

I find it shocking that India Post, rather than selling its own Postal Life Insurance, is selling products of a private insurer. The selling of Postal Life Insurance would have generated far more revenues for the Government of India. All it requires is to change the rules to allow Postal Life Insurance to be sold to every Indian citizen, why is it so difficult to do that ?
