Life insurance industry adds 2.41 lakh agents to reach 30 lakh foot soldiers

Recent Life Insurance Council data suggests that the life insurance industry has welcomed over 2.41 lakh new agents in one year to reach a total agent count of 30.34 lakh in January 2025.

LIC India, the largest life insurer of the country has added 62,946 new agents. Its agency force has increased from 13.83 lakh in Jan 2024 to 14.46 lakh in Jan 2025.

TATA AIA and HDFC Life have followed LIC by adding 49,908 and 38,662 agents, respectively.

Axis Max Life occupies the fourth spot by adding 28,353 agents whereas ICICI Prudential Life rounds off the top five by adding 16,422 agents.

LIC has the largest agent network with 14.46 lakh agents, followed by SBI Life with 2.38 lakh agents.

HDFC Life comes next with 2.34 lakh agents while ICICI Prudential Life and Bajaj Allianz Life have 2.22 lakh and 1.60 lakh agents, respectively.

The life insurers which have seen highest attrition of agent are SBI Life, Edelweiss Life and Shriram Life in one year.

While private sector life insurers have added 1.78 lakh new agents, LIC has added 63,000 new agents in the last one year.

Overall, the number of agents in the life insurance industry has increased by 8.6% in the last one year.
