Ahmedabad MFD Dr. Ankit Ajmera was diagnosed with blood cancer in October 2021. This came as a shock as his family did not have any cancer history.
Prior to mutual fund distribution, Dr. Ankit was an assistant professor and is a PhD. He joined his wife Monali’s mutual fund distribution business in 2017.
Further medical analysis revealed that Dr. Ankit was suffering from the gene deformity with higher risk. Doctors suggested him to undergo bone marrow transplant after chemotherapy. However, after going through two sessions of chemo, his body developed ulcers.
Also, while his son Yug’s bone marrow was a 50% match, Dr. Ankit’s has a rare antibody which didn’t support such a transplant. The doctor recommended him another treatment to reduce the impact of this rare antibody through immunosuppressants and oral subcutaneous chemotherapy.
After completing eight weekly cycles of these two procedures, he finally underwent bone marrow transplant. He was kept in quarantine for 5 months to avoid infection.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger: When go through any life challenge, you should remain positive and believe that the worst is behind you, believes Ankit. He feels that your body can give up but you will have to keep your mind strong.
Have adequate health insurance cover: Dr. Ankit feels that he was fortunate not to worry about the cost of treatment during his cancer journey. His health insurance policy covered almost all his medical expenses, which were substantial. While MFDs sell health policies to clients, very few MFDs are adequately insured. It is time to revisit your cover.
The support system: Dr. Ankit believes that he has been lucky to be surrounded by his family, who encouraged him to stay positive and look forward to a better future.
