With a belief that water conservation for today is life conservation for tomorrow, Satara distributor Alka Chitnis of The Investment Corner fixes running water taps every night to ensure that not a single drop of water is wasted.
Alka told Cafemutual that she roams the city along with a few volunteers during midnight hours to check if there are any public water supply taps left open by people. “At times, people forget to turn off the water taps. Also, it may be due to some glitch. To fix these issues, we go to every nook and corner of the city to turn off the municipal taps and fix them.”
Alka urges people to conserve water. “Many people do not realise that they consume gallons of water in day to day activities. In my view, even a small step like turning off the tap after brushing or washing face can give water to someone who has to stand in a long queue for hours just to quench the thirst of her family.”
The Satara distributor aims to fix all public distribution tabs in her district this year to conserve water.
