While a few AMCs have been at the forefront in fight against coronavirus, many individuals in the MF industry have contributed to the society during these tough times too.

With a view that these noble efforts deserve encouragement, Edelweiss AMC has featured stories of three MFDs and two employees who have made extraordinary efforts in fight against the virus in its annual report.

Let us look at these inspiring stories.

    MFDs

    Chetan Gill, Chandigarh

Spread awareness on benefits of vaccine

The fight against covid faces the challenge of misinformation. The spread of fear and fake news surrounding the virus and vaccines has resulted in lower turnout in rural vaccine centres.

Realising this, MFD Chetan Gill started educating and motivating people to get vaccinated. He influenced around 75 people from the mutual fund industry to get vaccinated. Later, in collaboration with two other MFDs – Kamal Bhalla and Vikas Batra, Gill reached out to more people. They told everyone to not just get themselves vaccinated but spread the word amongst family, friends, employees and even domestic help.

    Dhanya VR, Thiruvananthapuram

Gave employment to people in need and distributed food packets among underprivileged

The pandemic-led financial constraints has left many families struggling for basic necessities. Dhanya VR, an active member and secretary of the women fellowship run by CSI church in Kovalam, undertook several initiatives to help rural families earn and be self-sufficient with food. The group manufactured 1,000 cloth masks for people in rural areas.

They also provided food kits to needy families and distributed 25 varieties of vegetable seeds to all families to make them self-sufficient in two months. She has helped 17 families earn an income by getting orders for paper bags during the lockdown.

    Hiten Shah, MFD – Pune

Played a key role in setting up covid isolation centre

Hiten Shah has been involved in the creation and running of a unique 'covid isolation centre' in Pune. The centre run by Jai Jinendra Pratishthan focuses on creating an atmosphere of positivity for the covid patients who have been advised isolation.

The centre does so by serving positivity for the mind, body and soul through daily yoga sessions, regular fun-filled activities of music and nutritious food.

    Employees

Abhishek Kumar, Sales Manager, Edelweiss MF, Ranchi

    Distributed khichdi among people

Abhishek Kumar collaborated with the NGO Round Table and a few other friends to feed around 200-300 people a simple meal of khichdi every day. Abhishek’s friend, who owns a restaurant, volunteered the services of his cooks who helped in putting these meals together. As this initiative gained momentum, they raised funds and started feeding 1,000 people daily. More funds were raised and the team started feeding 10,000 people daily through the lockdown period of 2-3 months under the name ‘The CM Kitchen’.

Nishant Modi, Sales Manager, Edelweiss MF, Pune

Educated people on importance of keeping investment documents handy

Nishant Modi found a unique way to register his contribution in the fight against covid. He has been encouraging families to prepare a financial kit for each family member. He suggested that families should prepare a separate physical folder for each family member, which contains their PAN card copy, Aadhaar card, general & health insurance documents and some cash.
