It all started when Navi Mumbai MFD Sanjay Gaggar of National Bulls Investment Services reviewed his clients’ portfolio and identified the need for geographic diversification.
He studied global economies and the performance of funds having exposure to international stocks. He first approached a few clients to make them understand the opportunities in overseas investing. After receiving a positive response, he decided to expand his offerings to all existing clients through a SIP drive.
Taking a cue from the previous success stories published by Cafemutual, Sanjay gave a theme to his drive. He named it, ‘SIPs through Indian mutual funds investing in the US and other global markets.’
Sanjay approached all his clients and prospective investors to spread the word about international investing. He also recommended them that they should look beyond domestic market and diversify their investments across geographies to reduce concentration risk. He also informed them about the historic performances of international funds along with the possible risks involved.
Overall, 150 clients participated in his first SIP drive. Sanjay booked 215 SIPs amounting to Rs. 4.50 lakh. Interestingly, 15 new clients participated in his SIP drive.
Sanjay has shared with us 3 key takeaways from his drive:
- Reviewing existing clients’ portfolio can help in understanding the gap in the investment portfolio. This can help in setting the right theme for a drive
- Before finalising a drive, approaching a few clients can help in understanding the general sentiments which can help in designing the drive effectively
- Backing a particular recommendation with the applicable facts and data increases investors’ confidence to participate in the drive
