Surat MFD Ashok Nanjibhai Patel has donated a sum of Rs.41 lakh to fund treatment of cataract patients and setting up of a computer lab in a village school.
Ashok has donated Rs.16 lakh for treatment of cataract patients in rural areas of Gujarat. So far, 25 people have benefited through cataract surgery with his support.
In addition, Ashok has funded Rs.25 lakh for setting up a computer room in the school he used to study. This amount has been used to build a computer lab and install 45 PCs for students.
Talking to Cafemutual, Ashok said that one of his clients was associated with an NGO which sets up medical camps in rural areas and he came to know about the cataract operation drive through him. “I offered financial assistance to the needy people when my client sought support. Over 600 people underwent medical checkup and 25 people took benefit of the surgery,” he said.
Recalling his school days, Ashok said, “When I was in a school, a gentleman donated money that was utilized to construct school building. It was because of him; I studied in a brick-n-mortar classroom and was able to earn a livelihood. Last year, when I visited this school situated in my ancestral place in Mehsana district, one of school teachers told me about many underprivileged village children who could not study because their parents did not have money to buy computer or mobile phone. Taking inspiration from the gentleman who donated to fund my school building during my childhood days, I decided to follow his steps and set up a computer lab for underprivileged students.”
Ashok started mutual fund distribution in 2016. Born and bought up in Shankalpur, Mehsana, he did technical education and joined a corporate firm. Later, he came to know about a tax savings fund that can potentially deliver better returns than traditional investments. He started investing his money 2002 to test the waters. Very soon, he saw his investment fetching superior returns. He started helping his colleagues and friends to invest in mutual funds. He was doing it voluntarily as he did not have ARN then. Over the years, he has helped over 250 friends to invest in mutual funds.
It was only after encouragement from these friends that he started mutual fund distribution business in 2016. Most of his friends became his clients for incremental investments and gave him many referrals.
Today, he manages AUM of Rs.58 crore in mutual funds. While Ashok has donated his PF contribution (from his earlier job) for treatment of cataract patients, he has funded computer lab from his trail commission income. He will continue to donate his trail commission for welfare of society
