Many MFDs have started producing video content on YouTube to spread awareness about mutual funds and other financial products. While many of you may not be doing it for commercial purposes, what if we tell you that you can earn lakhs of rupees through YouTube monetization.
In fact, Kochi MFD Nikhil Gopalakrishnan, who has 2.69 subscribers on his Malayalam YouTube Channel ‘Money Talks with Nikhil’ earns close to Rs.70,000 per month through his YouTube Channel.
What is YouTube monetization?
Just like you become partner of a mutual fund company to distribute their products, you can become partner of YouTube by enrolling for the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP). YPP helps you earn money with increasing number of views. Here are some basic criteria to become a partner.
- You need at least 1,000 subscribers to monetize your YouTube channel
- You must have logged 4,000 hours of watch time in the previous 12 months
- Your YouTube channel adheres to all YouTube standards and rules
- Set up an AdSense account (generates advertisement) and link it with your channel
How much does YouTube pay?
YouTube pays you money once your subscribers list crosses 1000 mark and at least one of your videos receives 10,000 views.
To start with, you can earn up to Rs.400 per 1000 views after 10,000 views. Let us look at some payment slabs:

Note: The slab payment differs as YouTube pays more money to creators whose content gets more traction through subscriptions, likes, shares and so on.
The earned money gets deposited directly to your account by the 21st of every month.
There are some other sources through which you can earn money on YouTube like brand promotion and lead generation. However, MFDs should refrain from this as it will impact quality of your video.
