How eCPE is different from the conventional CPE?
eCPE is just NISM’s Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program delivered in online mode. In a conventional CPE, participants are required to physically visit the CPE venue and attend a full-day training program. Now, candidates can access the training program from their home/office at their convenience.
eCPE consists of a mix of video lessons and quizzes.
Both eCPE and regular CPE come with their own limitations. While eCPE does not offer interactive session i.e. you can engage with trainer or ask questions like regular CPEs, it offers you a convenient way to renew your ARN completely online.
The fees for both the modes is Rs.2500.
How often are these video lessons updated?
The video lessons under eCPE have been developed in the context of the current market scenario and SEBI regulations. However, NISM will update these video lessons with change in regulations and market dynamics. Also, NISM will consider updating video lessons based on your feedback.
What is the duration for eCPE? Can I complete my eCPEs by taking breaks?
eCPE for mutual fund distributors lasts for three and a half hours. The session covers various lessons. You can take breaks between lessons, however, you should avoid taking breaks while the lessons are in progress.
NISM allows candidates to complete eCPE within 48 hours i.e. 2 days from the selected date and timeslot. No further extension is allowed and fees paid will be forfeited.
Is laptop/desktop necessary for eCPE?
You can access the eCPE from your smartphone. However, ensure that your internet has a minimum speed 2 mbps. You can check your internet speed through a host of apps available in app store and iOS free of cost.
However, NISM recommends that you should access the course from your laptop and desktop for best experience. The following set up is recommended:
- A laptop or desktop with at least 2GB RAM

What checks and balances does NISM employ to ensure that someone else is not taking up the eCPE on behalf of distributors?
Ideally, this would be violation of NISM’s policy on unfair means, cheating, forgery and impersonation. NIMS can act upon such candidates if they found them guilty.
In addition, NISM uses artificial intelligence to check if distributors violates NISM code of conduct.
Is it mandatory to pass the eCPE course evaluation quiz at the end of eCPE?
No. However, you are expected to complete the evaluation with necessary seriousness to enable NISM to process your eCPE Certificate.
