Amongst all the states and union territories (UT) of India, New Delhi, Goa and Maharashtra have the highest AUM per capita, reported AMFI. AUM per capita is the total AUM of the state/UT divided by total number of folios.
These three geographies held the same ranking in the previous year as well. Not surprisingly, New Delhi and Maharashtra which collectively contributed 51% to the industry assets in March 21 were the top two states in terms of AUM per capita. However, Goa which ranked 18th in terms of AUM size was the third state with highest AUM per capita.
New Delhi’s AUM per capita was Rs. 1.54 lakh, while Goa and Maharashtra reported Rs. 1.20 lakh and Rs. 1.09 lakh respectively. Following the top three were Chandigarh and Haryana with AUM per capita of Rs. 82,743 and Rs. 47,322 respectively.
Karnataka (Rs. 32,328), Gujarat (Rs. 31,830), Tamil Nadu (Rs. 18,784), Sikkim (Rs. 18,428) and West Bengal (Rs. 17,126) were the next five highest states.
On the other hand, Jammu & Kashmir (Rs. 2,841), Bihar (Rs. 2,137) and Manipur (Rs. 1,830) appeared in the bottom three.

Looking into AUM % of GDP figures, Maharashtra and New Delhi were at the top two with 55.3% and 39.4% respectively. Goa took the third spot with 24.0% followed by Chandigarh (22.6%), Haryana (18.5%), Gujarat (14.4%), West Bengal (14.1%), Karnataka (13.8%), Jharkhand (9.5%) and Tamil Nadu (8.5%) whereas, Jammu & Kashmir (2.4%), Tripura (2.4%) and Manipur (2.2%) finished at the bottom.
