Of the total MF assets of Rs. 37.70 lakh crore, 70% has come from just five states/UTs, shows AMFI data. Maharashtra, New Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat and West Bengal collectively account for assets of Rs. 26.39 lakh crore.
Maharashtra takes a massive lead and manages 42% or Rs. 16 lakh crore of industry assets. Other states individually manage less than 10% of industry AAUM.
Geographic spread
West - 51.62%: Following Maharashtra (42.43%), Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa account for 6.87%, 1.75% and 0.57%, respectively.
North - 18.86%: New Delhi takes the lead and accounts for 8.60% of total industry assets. Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir manage 4.29%, 4.15%, 1.12%, 0.37%, 0.23% and 0.12%, respectively.
South - 15.13%: Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala account for 6.93%, 4.25%, 1.68%, 1.20% and 1.07% of industry assets individually.
East - 7.90%: West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar account for 5.16%, 0.95%, 0.94% and 0.85%.
Central - 1.92%: The penetration of mutual funds is lower in the central states of Madhya Pradesh (1.38%) and Chhattisgarh (0.54%).
North East - 0.75%: The state-wise concentration here is less than 1% - Assam (0.51%), Meghalaya (0.07%), Tripura (0.04%), Nagaland (0.04%), Sikkim (0.03%), Arunachal Pradesh (0.03%), Manipur (0.02%) and Mizoram (0.02%)
