Two rules applicable from July 1, 2022 that matter to you

MFDs will have to renew their ARN within 3 months of the expiry to avoid forfeiture of trail commission.

    Listen to this article

From July 1, 2022, AMFI will implement two key changes in ARN renewal norms – ARN has to be renewed within 3 months and it can only be renewed through digital process.

    Three months’ time

AMFI clarified that they will forfeit trail commission of distributors if they do not renew their ARN within in three months of expiry.

However, MFDs can renew their ARN even after 3 months but they are not entitled to claim trail commission on their previous assets.

    Here are other key changes:

    • ARN will be considered invalid if it is not renewed on or before the expiry date
    • MFDs can renew their ARN six months before its expiry
    • Business procured during the expired period or invalid ARN period will be shifted to direct plans. This means, SIP business of MFDs will go to direct plan during the expired period
    • Trail commission on assets built before expiry will be withheld till three months of the expiry of ARN
    • If MFDs renew their ARN within three months of expiry, they are entitled to get trail commission on their previous assets. Please note that the business acquired during the expired period will not generate trail commission for you
    • If MFDs renew their ARN after three months of expiry, they will get trail commission only on business acquired after the renewal date. Trail commission built before the expiry will be forfeited completely. Basically, MFDs will have to start afresh

    Online renewal

AMFI has done away with the physical route to renew ARN. It will make ARN renewal process completely online from July 1, 2022.

Also, AMFI has asked MFDs to write to them if they face any difficulty in renewing their ARN. “In case you face any problem / encounter any error while renewing your ARN/ EUIN, please send an email along with the screenshot of the error encountered to amfiarn@camsonline.com,” said AMFI.

Currently the renewal of ARN before expiry period can be done within one year before renewal date. In the above article you have mentioned it as 6 months, is there any change now? Please verify and confirm.

Yes currently one can renew their ARN one year before the expiry. My ARN is going to expire on 23rd June 2023 and recently I completed my eCPE on 28/06/2022 considering that provision. Now I am little worried whether I have to jndergo again and my earlier eCPE fees@2500 will get wasted. Kindly clarify

Its good all process is gone online eCPE then online Submission of renewal process.
But why AMFI taking as sharp decisions to implement it. if somebody have ARN in July August September 2022 Expiry, then they lost all their trail income in past hard working years.
its good for AMFI, AMCs ..How this process is good for Distributots and Upcoming MFDs. who are seeking this field for their future carrier.

It is too harsh a decision that if a MFD fails to renew ARN after expiry of 3 months he will loose his entire trail on his past AUM.AUM is built over a period of hard work a nd trust built with the clients.
If the folios are converted to direct MFD can not access the folios and give service. It is not in the best interest of investors also.Instead only broken period trail may be held up and released after renewal, just as in case of Non KYC compiant folios.
Nominal penalty msy be charged.and renewal fees may be hiked to such MFDs
