    MF Bulletin: Monthly SIP flows cross Rs. 13,600 third time in a row

    From details of average AUM to ARN renewals, here are the key data points of the month gone by.

    The MF industry received Rs. 13,600 crore of monthly SIP contribution in December 2022. Notably, this is the third consecutive month in which the inflows crossed Rs. 13,000 crore.

    Further, the average AUM reported a 7% annual growth and stood at Rs. 40.76 lakh crore.

    Here are the other key highlights of the MF industry in December 2022.

    New investor count increases by almost 3 lakh

    • 2.93 lakh investors joined the MF industry as against 78,045 investors in the previous month
    • The total investor count increased to 3.67 crore of which 3.63 crore investors have unique PANs and close to 5 lakh have PEKRNs (PAN-exempt KYC reference numbers)

    Total folio count jumps by 13 lakh  

    • The folio count went up by 13.64 lakh taking the total to 14.11 crore from the previous count of 13.98 crore
    • Of the total folios, 56% or 7.91 crore folios are from T-30 cities and the balance 44% or 6.20 crore folios are from B-30 cities

    • The percentage contribution from T-30 and B-30 cities in the industry AUM (Rs. 39.89 lakh crore) remained constant at 82% from T30 and 18% from B30
    • In absolute terms, the contribution of T-30 cities declined from Rs. 33.12 lakh crore to Rs. 32.74 lakh crore. The share of B-30 cities also reduced from Rs. 7.26 lakh crore to Rs. 7.15 lakh crore

    Average AUM per retail folio declines

    • The average AUM per folio of the industry as a whole i.e. retail and corporate decreased from Rs. 2.89 lakh to Rs. 2.83 lakh.
    • The average AUM per retail folio also declined from Rs. 1.71 lakh to Rs. 1.67 lakh
    • Further, the location-wise average AUM per folio declined to Rs. 2.23 lakh and Rs. 0.96 lakh in T-30 and B-30 cities, respectively

     

    Net SIP accounts increase by almost 8 lakh     

    • The total number of outstanding SIP accounts increased from 6.05 crore to 6.12 crore. The net SIP accounts went up by 7.85 lakh as investors registered 23.24 lakh new SIPs and 15.39 lakh SIPs matured/were paused or discounted

    • The total monthly SIP contribution was Rs. 13,573 crore, of which regular plans brought 77% or Rs. 10,411 crore. Direct plans contributed the balance of 23% or Rs. 3,162 crore  

    Over 5,000 MFDs join the industry   

     

    • 5,049 MFDs joined the industry of which 2,351 were individuals. This is what the break-up of ARN/EUIN registrations looked like:

    • In the case of renewals, 4,183 MFDs renewed their ARNs of which 2,111 were individual MFDs. Here is the break-up.
