    How is the performance of India’s top 30 equity funds in 5 years

    Of the top 30 equity funds based on AUM, 12 schemes outperformed their benchmark for the five-year period ending in June 2024.

    An analysis of the 5-year performance of top 30 active equity funds in terms of AUM shows that 12 of them surpassed respective benchmarks for the five-year period ending in June 2024.

    Noteworthy, among these top performers were Quant Small Cap Fund, SBI Contra Fund and Nippon India Small Cap Fund. These three funds have generated alpha of over 5%.

    Quant Small Cap Fund, which stood at 30th position in AUM ranking by managing Rs.23,000 crore delivered alpha of  14% in the five-year period. The fund delivered five-year CAGR of 42% compared to 28% of its benchmark.

    While SBI Contra Fund delivered alpha of 8%, Nippon India Small Cap Fund made an additional 5% for its investors in the five-year period ending in June 2024.

    Additionally, several other funds demonstrated commendable performance. Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund, ICICI Prudential Value Discovery Fund and SBI Long Term Equity Fund secured alpha over 4%.

    Other outperforming schemes were ICICI Prudential Bluechip Fund, Nippon India Large Cap Fund, HDFC Flexi Cap Fund, Mirae Asset ELSS Tax Saver Fund, Nippon India Multi Cap Fund and SBI Small Cap Fund.

    Further, Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund overtook HDFC Mid Cap Opportunities Fund to become India’s largest fund in terms of AUM. The fund manages AUM of Rs.71,700 crore in June 2024. It delivered CAGR of 25% as against 20% of its benchmark.

    The second largest MF scheme – HDFC Mid Cap Opportunities Fund that manages AUM of Rs.70,600 crore underperformed its benchmark by 92 bps.

    Among the top three underperformers were Axis ELSS Tax Saver Fund, Axis Midcap Fund, and Axis Bluechip Fund.
