    SBI MF, ICICI Pru MF and HDFC MF have the highest debt AUM

    The total debt AUM of MF industry is at Rs. 17.80 lakh crore

    An analysis of AUM data by Cafemutual shows that SBI MF, ICICI Pru MF and HDFC MF are the top three debt players in September 2024. 

    SBI MF has the highest debt AUM of Rs. 2.48 lakh crore in September 2024. The company derives 22% of its total AUM from debt schemes.

    While ICICI Pru MF is the second biggest player in debt schemes with assets of Rs. 2.43 lakh crore, HDFC MF comes third with assets of Rs. 2.27 lakh crore AUM in debt schemes. 

    These top three fund houses contribute 40% of the total debt AUM of the MF industry.

    Following the top 3 is Aditya Birla Sun Life MF which has debt AUM of Rs. 1.93 lakh crore. Kotak MF stands at fifth position by commanding debt assets of Rs. 1.61 lakh crore.

    The other fund houses with over Rs. 1 lakh crore in debt assets are Nippon India MF (Rs. 1.19 lakh crore) and  Axis MF (Rs. 1.03 lakh crore). 

    Bandhan MF, UTI MF and Tata MF complete the top 10 with debt AUM of Rs. 90500 crore, Rs. 78200 crore and Rs. 64900 crore, respectively. 

    Please note that we have taken pure debt funds, conservative or debt oriented hybrid funds and passive funds to arrive at the AUM ranking.

    Fund houses with highest debt proportion

    In terms of debt AUM in proportion to the total MF assets,  Trust MF, Bandhan MF and Aditya Birla Sun Life MF are the top three players.

    Trust MF derives 62% of its total assets from debt funds. While Bandhan MF is second with 57% of its total assets coming from debt funds, Aditya Birla Sun Life MF also has about 50% of its overall AUM coming from debt schemes.

    Among other fund houses in terms of debt AUM with respect to total AUM are LIC MF, Shriram MF, Baroda BNP Paribas MF, Tata MF, HSBC MF, Kotak MF and Axis MF. 

    Overall, the debt AUM of the MF industry reached Rs. 17.80 lakh crore in September from Rs.15.69 lakh crore, an increase of 13% in six months. Debt assets account for 26% of the overall AUM of the MF industry which is at Rs. 67.82 lakh crore.
