An analysis of AMFI data shows that equity and hybrid schemes have seen the highest growth in AUM in 2024.
While the equity AUM has increased from Rs. 22.09 lakh crore in December 2023 to Rs. 30.90 lakh crore in December 2024, recording a 40% increase, hybrid funds have seen their assets grow by Rs. 2.31 lakh crore i.e. from Rs. 7 lakh crore in December 2023 to Rs. 9.31 lakh crore in December 2024, a 33% increase.
Passive funds have also witnessed a 29% increase in their AUM during the last year to reach Rs. 11.33 lakh crore in December.
Overall, the AUM of the open-ended schemes has increased from Rs. 52.59 lakh crore to Rs. 69.06 lakh crore, recording a 31% growth.

Equity funds
Sectoral and thematic funds have seen the highest rise in their AUM in 2024 of Rs. 2.08 lakh crore. The fund category has seen its assets growing from Rs. 2.64 lakh crore in December 2023 to Rs. 4.72 lakh crore in December 2024, recording a 79% increase.
Mid cap funds are the next with an AUM growth of Rs. 1.16 lakh crore. Its AUM has risen from Rs. 2.85 lakh crore to Rs. 4 lakh crore in one year, a 41% increase.
Flexi cap is the third fastest growing category with a rise of Rs. 1.12 crore to reach AUM of Rs. 4.43 lakh crore.
In percentage terms, multi cap funds have seen an almost 60% AUM growth in one year.

Hybrid funds
In hybrid funds, arbitrage funds have seen the highest rise in their AUM from Rs. 1.62 lakh crore in December 2023 to Rs. 2.37 lakh crore in December 2024, recording a 46% rise.
Multi asset allocation funds and balanced advantage funds occupy the next two spots with AUM growth of Rs. 57,700 crore (90%) and Rs. 50,948 crore (21%), respectively.

Passive funds
Among passive funds, other ETFs, which include equity and bond ETFs have seen the highest absolute increase in their AUM of Rs. 1.62 lakh crore.
Next are index funds with a growth of Rs. 75,800 crore. Their AUM has gone from Rs. 2.01 lakh crore to Rs. 2.77 lakh crore during 2024, a 38% rise in percentage terms.
Gold ETFs have seen the highest percentage AUM growth of 46%. Their assets have grown from Rs. 30,400 crore to Rs. 44,300 crore during the year.

Debt funds
Money market funds have seen the highest growth among debt funds. The category has seen Rs. 93,500 crore AUM increase during the year from Rs. 1.51 lakh crore to Rs. 2.44 lakh crore, recording a 62% rise.
Liquid funds have also recorded growth of Rs. 73,900 crore in their AUM from Rs. 4.72 lakh crore to Rs. 5.46 lakh crore, a 16% rise.
Corporate bond fund is the third category in terms of absolute growth with growth of Rs. 29,100 crore in AUM.
In percentage terms, long duration funds are the leaders with an 88% growth in AUM from Rs. 10,600 crore in December 2023 to Rs. 20,000 crore in December 2024. Money market funds are second while gilt funds are third with 61% growth each in AUM.
