    MF industry adds 7.65 lakh unique investors in December 2024

    The folio count has also increased by 42 lakh in a month.

    The latest mutual fund industry data shows that the MF industry has added over 7.65 lakh unique investors in December 2024. With this, the number of unique investors has reached 5.26 crore in December 2024 from 5.18 crore in November 2024. 
     
    The folio count of the industry has also increased from 22.08 crore to 22.50 crore, showing an increase of 42 lakh. 
     
    Here are other key highlights of December:
     
    Average AUM and net inflows
    • Average AUM of the industry has increased by 2% in December, from Rs. 68.04 lakh crore to Rs. 69.33 lakh crore
    • The industry has seen net outflows of about Rs. 80,400 crore during the month mostly due to quarter end redemptions in liquid funds by corporates are part of their tax planning
    T30 & B30 folio count and AUM
     
    • The number of folios in T30 cities has increased from 11.66 crore to 11.83 crore in December, recording a 1.4% increase
    • In B30 cities, the folio count has increased from 10.42 crore to 10.67 crore in December
    • When it comes to AUM, the assets from T30 cities have decreased from Rs. 55.29 lakh crore in November to Rs. 54.12 lakh crore in December, a decrease of 2%
    • B30 AUM, on the other hand, has increased marginally from Rs. 12.79 lakh crore in November to Rs. 12.81 lakh crore in December 
     
    Average AUM per folio
    • The average AUM per folio in T30 cities has reduced by about 2% from Rs. 2.70 lakh in November to Rs. 2.65 lakh in December
    • The average AUM per folio in B30 cities has decreased from Rs. 1.05 lakh in November to Rs. 1.03 lakh in December, a decrease of almost 2%
    • The combined average AUM per folio (T30+B30) in retail segment has also reduced by about 2% from Rs. 1.92 lakh in November to Rs. 1.88 lakh in December
    • The average AUM per folio of the entire industry, by taking both retail and corporate investors has reduced from Rs. 3.08 lakh in November to Rs. 2.97 lakh in December, a decline of 3.7%
     
    SIP accounts and AUM
    • The total number of outstanding SIP accounts of the industry have increased from 10.23 crore to 10.32 crore during December
    • The month has seen registration of 54.27 lakh new SIPs while 44.91 lakh SIPs have been discontinued, showing a net increase of 9.36 lakh SIPs
    • SIP AUM of the industry has recorded an increase from Rs. 13.54 lakh crore to Rs. 13.63 lakh crore in the month of December
    • Monthly SIP contribution has also shown an increase from Rs. 25,320 crore in November to Rs. 26,459 crore in December
     
    ARN registration 
    • The industry has seen 5,385 new ARN registrations 
    • Of this, 2605 registrations have come from Individuals while corporate employees account for 2,579 of them
    • Maharashtra has contributed 21% of the new registrations while Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh are next with 10% and 9% share in new ARN registrations, respectively
    • West Bengal and Karnataka account for 5% of the total registrations, respectively     
     
    ARN renewals
    • The industry has seen 6,358 ARN renewals out of which 4,441 belong to individuals
    • Corporate employees have contributed 1,735 renewals while corporates account for 177 renewals
