An analysis of the state wise average AUM per folio in mutual funds shows that New Delhi, Goa and Maharashtra are the top three states in terms of the highest average AUM per folio as on December 2024. These states have average AUM per folio of Rs.2.76 lakh, Rs.2.45 lakh and Rs.2.25 lakh, respectively.
Interestingly, these are the only three states that have an average AUM per folio of over Rs.1 lakh.
Average AUM per folio of each state is calculated by dividing the total AUM of a state or UT and the total number of folios in the state.
The analysis shows that Haryana and Karnataka and Gujarat take the next three spots with an average AUM per folio of Rs78,700, Rs. 71,750 and Rs.71,570 respectively.
Interestingly, smaller states and UTs like Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar have also made it to the list of top ten states/UTs with the highest average AUM per folio.
At the bottom of the list, Bihar has recorded the lowest per capita AUM at Rs. 5,700, followed by Manipur at Rs. 5,190 and Jammu & Kashmir at Rs. 7,570.

Average AUM to GDP Ratio
In terms of average AUM with respect to percentage of state’s GDP or AUM to GDP ratio, Maharashtra, New Delhi and Goa are the top three states/UTs.
Maharashtra has maintained the highest AUM to GDP ratio of 90%. New Delhi and Goa take the next two positions with AUM to GDP ratio of 54% and 46%, respectively. The average AUM to GDP ratio is the total assets of the state divided by its GDP.
Gujarat and Haryana are the next two states with highest AUM to GDP ratio of 26% and 23%, respectively.
Interestingly, Jharkhand makes it to the list of top 10 states/UTs in terms of AUM to GDP ratio. Let us look at the table to know more:
