The latest mutual fund industry data shows that 7.67 lakh new investors have started their investment journey in MFs in January. With this, the number of unique investors in mutual funds has increased from 5.26 crore in December 2024 to 5.33 crore in January 2025.
The industry has also seen addition of 42 lakh new folios during January, taking its folio count from 22.50 crore to 22.92 crore.

Average AUM & net flows
- The average AUM of the industry has decreased from Rs. 69.33 lakh crore in December to Rs. 68.05 lakh crore in January, recording a 1.8% decline
- On a positive note, the industry has seen net inflows of Rs. 1.87 lakh crore in January compared to net outflows of about Rs. 80,300 crore in December
T30 & B30 folio count and AUM
- The folio count in T30 cities has seen an increase of 1.6% in January to reach 12.02 crore from 11.83 crore in December
- When it comes to B30 cities, the folio count has recorded a 2.1% rise from 10.67 crore in December to 10.90 crore in January
- In terms of AUM, T30 cities has shown an increase of about 1%, from Rs. 54.12 lakh crore in December to Rs. 54.65 lakh crore in January
- On the other hand, B30 AUM has seen a marginal decrease in its AUM from Rs. 12.81 lakh crore in December to Rs. 12.60 lakh crore in January
Average AUM per folio
- Average AUM per folio has declined in both B30 and T30 segments. In T30 cities, the average AUM per folio has reduced from Rs. 2.65 lakh in December to Rs. 2.56 lakh in January
- In B30 cities, the average AUM per folio has declined from Rs. 1.03 lakh in December to Rs. 0.99 lakh in January
SIP accounts and AUM
- The industry has seen a discontinuation of 5.14 lakh SIP accounts in January to see the total number of SIP accounts go down from 10.32 crore to 10.27 crore
- SIP AUM has also seen a decline from Rs. 13.63 lakh crore to Rs. 13.20 lakh crore at the end of January
- SIP contribution has also recorded a decrease from about Rs. 26,460 crore to Rs, 26,400 crore
ARN registration
- The month of January has seen 5,793 ARN registrations. Out of these, 2,820 has come from individual MFDs while corporate employees contributed 2,771 registrations
- Maharashtra accounts for 21% of the new registrations while Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh account for 10% and 9% registrations, respectively. West Bengal and Tamil Nadu also form 6.8% and 5.3% of the new ARN registrations
ARN renewals
- January has recorded 7,636 ARN renewals
- Out of them, 4,524 renewals are from individuals while 2,884 are from corporate employees
