    IFAs and fund officials gear up for Mumbai Marathon

    While some are running for fitness, others are running for a cause.

    Among  celebrities, athletes (professional and amateur) and corporate honchos who will run for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, this year too we will see a lot mutual fund professionals put on their running shoes to participate in one of the most anticipated events in Mumbai.

    The 13th edition of Standard Chartered event which takes place on January 17 will see IFAs, AMC officials and fund managers sweating it out for a cause and fitness.  The participants will start their journey from Worli Seaface and run towards Bandra Worli Sea Link and come back via the Sea Link. 

    From the MF industry, Akhil Chaturvedi (Motilal Oswal AMC), Ajit Menon (Tata AMC), Siddharth Bothra (Motilal Oswal AMC), Prithipal Singh (BNP Paribas MF), Arun Prasad (BOI Axa MF), Shri Harsha (Axis MF) and Vikaas Sachdeva (Edelweiss MF) will be seen running the 21 km half marathon.

    From the advisory side, Annol Merchant (Merchant Investment Consultancy) and P.V. Subramanyam (Subramoney) will be running the marathon. Raghvendra Nath, Managing Director – Ladderup Wealth Management, will be running the full marathon. 

    The enthusiasm for the marathon is palpable from the overwhelming response from MF executives. For instance, ICICI Prudential AMC has received nominations from 50 employees who are keen to run for the upcoming marathon.

    While some are running for fitness others are running for a cause. “Sales guys have to be fit. I run for fitness,” said Shri Harsha, Head – Distribution Development, Axis Mutual Fund. Harsha has been running the half marathon since 2008. He also ran for the Hiranandani Powai Run on January 3rd.

    Many of them have already begun practicing for the big day.  

    Akhil Chaturvedi of Motilal Oswal who has been running marathons organized by Airtel, Borivali National Park, IL&FS and Hiranandani will be seen running for Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon for the second year. “I run for a cause and fitness. I run to test myself and push the limits,” says Akhil. To practice for the event, Akhil has been running at Juhu beach for four days a week.

    Annol Merchant of Merchant Consultancy will be running for the fourth year at Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. “I train for four days a week (running for two days and gym for 2 days).  On an average I run 10 km a day.”

    Vikaas Sachdeva, CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund has been running for the Mumbai marathon for eight years now. Vikaas runs for a cause with his team. They will be running on behalf of EdelGive, as part of its Edelweiss’ corporate social responsibility.

    Vishal Kapoor of Standard Chartered Wealth Management has been running with his team to raise fundsto help underprivileged children in their treatment and recovery from cancer. “Our team at Standard Chartered Wealth Management India has been associated with CanKids KidsCan and I am trying to help 200 children afflicted with this condition on their road to recovery,” Vishal wrote in an email.

    Nimesh Shah of ICICI Pru MF, Prashant Jain of HDFC, Karan Datta of Axis and Vivek Kudva of Franklin Templeton will skip the marathon this year. “I have started running 100 meters sprint. So will be skipping the event this year,” said Karan.
