Next time, when your clients visit a clinic, they may end up getting a prescription to buy health insurance policies.

In a first of its kind insurance distribution collaboration, Apollo Clinic, a subsidiary of Apollo Hospital has tied up with HDFC Ergo General Insurance to distribute health insurance policies to its patients and customers.

The clinic chain has entered the corporate agency business to sell health insurance policies through its network of over 140 clinics. Apollo Clinic runs multispecialty health clinics, labs and pharmacy among other business.

In a press release, the general insurer said that Apollo Clinic will offer HDFC ERGO’s comprehensive health plans like my:health Suraksha and my:health Medisure Super Top-up. “Furthermore, customers of Apollo Clinic will also have access to wellness benefits under HDFC ERGO’s my:health mobile application, which include fitness discounts at renewals, specially designed preventive health check-ups after every renewal and wellness services like health coaching, nutrition and weight management services, discounts at pharmacies among others,” said the company.

This is the first time that IRDAI has given corporate agency license to a company that operates clinics and pharmacies across the country. With this, we may see more clinics, hospitals, pathology labs and pharmacies becoming health insurance distributors to increase their offerings.
