The 14th edition of Mutual Fund Round Table (MFRT) hosted spiritual guru Swami Gyanvatsal and sports guru Javagal Srinath.
Here are the key takeaways from their sessions.
Swami Gyanvatsal and his take on choices, chances and changes
Good, ethical and morally right choices give a chance to bring a big change in life.
Citing Jeff Cobb’s ‘Leading the Learning Revolution’, Swamiji said that change is the only constant in the knowledge economy. You must constantly evolve with the right attitude, skills and knowledge (ASK) to remain competitive.
However, distractions and consciousness usually come in the way of learning. As the first choice, choose to have minimum distractions to become a learned professional. Mathematically, Performance = Potential - Distractions. Develop mental strength to overcome distractions and concentrate on work. Also, rather than focusing on unpleasant past events, focus on what you can make happen today.
Also, choose to be resilient and have a never say die spirit. Persuasion and persistence are keys to business growth.
Swamiji also shared that there are as many opportunities as there are droplets in an ocean. Choose to be attentive, grab opportunities and bring that change in life.
Finally, have a strong value system and remain ethical under all circumstances. Right virtues lay the foundation for your profession and act as a client magnet.
Learnings from Javagal Srinath’s cricketing experience
Javagal, in conversation with Karan Datta said that spectators want to know everything happening on the pitch. There is a higher demand for accuracy, integrity and transparency. Likewise, in mutual fund distribution, investors seek accurate/authentic information, integrity/unbiased advice and transparency in dealings.
Talking about match-fixing scandals, the sports star said that where there is money, temptations are bound to exist. However, there is no shortcut to money. Make morally correct decisions and possess money rightfully. This makes careers far better and more successful.
Also, we often face pressure situations in life. To this Javagal said that pressure is good as it encourages introspection and helps to identify newer strengths. However, be mindful of triggers that cause extreme fatigue. It is okay to slow down a bit and take a break in between. While on a break, have no insecurities and be confident of making a stronger comeback.
While a test match is a mix of good and bad spells, continuing to bowl and focusing on ‘line and length’ is crucial. Likewise, in life, persistence and focused efforts are important.
