Mumbai: Upendra Kumar Sinha on Friday took charge as Chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India.
He succeeds C B Bhave as the eighth chairman of the securities market regulator. Prior to this, Sinha was Chairman & Managing Director of UTI Mutual Fund and also Chairman of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
Sinha was an IAS official till a few years ago. While in the government, he was Joint Secretary (Banking) and Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) in the Ministry of Finance.
Sinha was the chairman of the working group on foreign investment in India formed by the government. He was also a member of several committees set up by the government including the committees on liquidity management, FIIs, corporate bond market and investor protection.
